Recent blog entry - False Alarm

Day off school today due to a storm warning. A storm should have hit Saigon today and all the emergency services were on alert to deal with the consequences. It never happened; it veered off course and missed us completely. The main advantage to me was that I was able to get some reading done.
I'm reading quite a few John Grishams at the minute and I know they are all based on legal matters but Grisham has quite a knowledge of modern American history and manages to weave an amazing amount of fact into his fiction. The one book he has written that I would advise anyone to read is "A Painted House". Completely without lawyers, it is totally captivating and rates as my favourite to date. Although I would never compare writers this work is akin to "To kill A Mockingbird" by Harper Lee and it's the type of book you just don't want to end.
Pauline's recommended a few new authors to me so I'm off book shopping at the weekend.
